Thinking of buying a 2010 LR2.

as you know, its actually a ford ecoboost engine. And on the earlier models, the turbo cracks. Of course why someone scoped such a poor quality turbo for the direct injection engine is well beyond me. I understand the part has changed to a more robust turbo casing.
I’ve seen comments that the same occurs on the diesel version as. well. But it is just a hairline crack. Why not just have it welded?
But I digress. I do get very good mileage, even in the 4 wheel drives configurations. And still plenty of power for the off roading I do.

Thank you for the advice. I’m probably going to steer clear of this one but may watch for an LR2 with lower miles. What are your general thoughts on LR2s and what years are best? Again, I’m totally new to anything Land Rover but have always been intrigued. I currently drive a Subaru Outback and previously had a Volvo XC70.
The P3 XC70 3.2 and the LR2 3.2 are siblings not quite twins but close. (Ford owned both companies back in the day)
I own a 2008 LR2 3.2 (purchased new) and a 2010 S80 3.2 (Purchase in 2018 with 125,000 miles on it)
My S80 is Front Wheel Drive so it needs a few less things than the LR2 maintained but other than that they are siblings.
Here is what I replaced on my S80 to bring the Maintenance up to date (Note: my LR2 also has most of these items but I did the maintenance over a longer time period)
$62.53 --- (31401556) --- Booster O-rings
$40.35 --- (DENSO 5344) --- Sparkplugs
$58.28 --- (LR006071) --- Thermostat
$00.66 --- (LR001505) O-ring for 30713530
$24.29 --- (30713530) --- Coolant hose
$68.85 --- (31272677) --- Oil Filter housing
$18.92 --- (LR006076) --- Idler pulley
$18.92 --- (LR006076) --- Tensioner Pulley
$08.97 --- (PK060473 CONTITECH) --- Aux Belt
$112.70 --- (LR021634) --- Motor Mount
$23.24 --- (30680474) --- Torq Mount
$15.76 --- (UD1306) --- Front Brake Pads (Amazon close out price, typical price is ~$75)
$523.23 --- AC repair
$43.37 --- Overdrive pulley ProParts Sweden 28436803
$323 ---- Radiator (Prem Air type)
$281 --- Radiator Fan (Siemens / VDO)
$34.4 --- (31272732-MFG14) BOSCH Fuel Pressure Sending unit
$11.61 --- (31300263) B+ Battery Clamp
$00.00 --- Loaner Battery from the Land Rover (Note: it is slightly too large and the cover only latches on one side)
$156.00 --- Mirror repair
$120.00 --- H8 GTR Ultra LED 2.0 bulbs
$06.00 --- Brake light bulb
That about $2000 worth of maintenance that the previous owner neglected and some repairs.
Because I am familiar with the drivetrain I am able to get the parts from reputable vendors at low prices.
If I bought the part directly from Volvo it would have cost double about $4000
And if I had Volvo do the repair the cost would likely have been about $10,000
So if you can do the work and you have time to look around for discounts on parts then the LR2 can be a great vehicle.
Here is the information about my S80 and the work that I did to it.
If this seems too hard you should look for something else (i.e. not a LR2 or XC70 or XC60 or S80)
