Tire Pressure Monitoring System Fault

This is a bizarre thread. The TPMS sensors all get queried on the same frequency and respond on one of two frequencies. The transmitters are very short range and the antennas are embedded in the inside of the fenders. Why would they give people so much grief? I'm replacing one of my sensors tomorrow 'cause the shop that is powder coating the wheels for me found one sensor cracked. I will be installing a VDO SE52029 advertised as an exact OE replacement.

The TPMS sensor needs to be programmed to match the application.
VDO / CONTINENTALSE52029 {Click Info Button for Alternate/OEM Part Numbers} Continental OE Sensor; Programmed
I used the old version of the VDO / Conti VDO / CONTINENTALSE53004 {Click Info Button for Alternate/OEM Part Numbers} OE Remote; Programmed
Why? because it was cheaper $25 instead of $45 each
You should be fine
Note: Conti bought VDO and they are liquidating the VDO part number and replacing it with the Conti part number
Good luck
Paul
PS the sensor can be programmed after install but that requires specialized tools which I don't have and I won't be buying

I think the sensor needs to be programmed for the specific vehicle type, so it knows it's looking for an LR2. You should be able to buy them programmed that way. Then the vehicle sees some LR2 sensors, but it has to relearn which ones are following it around as you drive it.
Programming: Required for generic sensors, not required if you buy sensors which are specified as pre-programmed for your make/model.
Re-learn: The driving around bit, so it knows which sensors are installed on it's wheels as opposed to installed on another nearby LR2.
Cloning: What it sounds like, copy the ID of an existing installed TPMS sensor and assigning it to another one. Apparently this is for people who swap winter and summer tires.
If you were to buy new senors from JLR, they would be pre-programmed so the manual only mentions the re-learn procedure.
