Default Tire Pressure Warning Light

I have this annoying low tire pressure warning light that has been periodically illuminating for the past 6-8 months since I purchased the 2007 LR3 V8 SE. This weekend, I adjusted the tire pressure to the specification 33 PSI in the front and 42 PSI in the rear. Before, I was running 40 PSI in all four. Since I adjusted the tire pressure, I get the tire pressure warning light more frequently (it does not stay on permanently…just comes on, stays on a while and then goes off…waits a while then comes back on again). Since I added air to the rear to bring it up to 42 PSI and deflated the fronts to 33 PSI, I get the warning to “Check tire air pressure”, or words to that effect, usually every time I drive it and shut it down, it comes on right before I shut it off. I have checked tire air pressure with three different gauges when the warning light illuminates, and the tire pressure is at 33PSI in the front and 42PSI in the rear. The warning to “check tire air pressure” has only occurred since I adjusted the tire pressures this past weekend. The specification calls for 33PSI in the front and 42 PSI in the rear. I am running standard 25560R18 tires. Anyone have any ideas how to get this light to illuminate only when the tire pressure gets out of tolerance.

I have the same issue on my 2007 LR3, I took it to a local tire shop. I was told one of the tire sensors is going out.

Probably a bad sensor. You can get OEM VDO sensors for about $20 each. I replace mine when I get new tires.

Thanks. Doubt if these have ever been replaced.

I posted this in the "what did you do to your LR3 today?" thread, but I'll put it here too. If you replace the sensor, you might want to consider the updated version which supposedly has better metal on the valve stem. Apparently in 2018 the original Siemens TPMS design was updated with a compatible unit made by Continental with upgraded hardware. From a vendor website:
Notes: TPMS 315hz. OEM by VDO please note to a change by VDO in 2018 Part # SE53001 was changed to SE52081 From an application stand point, they can mix and match; SE52081 will work with SE53001. The difference is in the sensor design. SE52081 is the newer TG1C design with upgraded hardware compared to the old TG1B SE53001, but they are functionally the same.

The Continentals are more like $40 from Ro**auto. I'm now running 3 Siemens and 1 Continental and it works fine.
