Default Tire Pressure Sensor

I'm running into a systematic TPS failures in my 2009 LR2 (100,000 miles). Last year was the 1st (in the driveway) stem broke and the 2nd happened at 75 miles an hour on the freeway just a week ago. In each case the sensor failed on it's own. The local tire store stated that they corrode, plastic section becomes brittle and they break. I'm going to replace the other (2) before they break. What is the average life of a TPS sensor? Is there an upgrade or heavy duty TPS sensor vs the stock one? Any ideas?
Thanks Bob

What happened when the stem broke while you were travelling 75mph on the highway? Did the tire slowly deflate so you could make a controlled stop on the side of the road? Or was it a sudden deflation with risk of crashing?

These TPMS sensors are supposed to increase safety, not pose a dangerous hazard by breaking while you are driving. Reminds me of the defective air bag problem where it causes more harm than good.

I came to a controlled stop without issues. No question the tire deflated quickly. I've been driving for over 40 years and never had a conventional valve stem fail ever. Now within 2 years I've had (2) "safety TPS" fail! I've looked at each of the (2) remaining units and visually they look fine but I'm not taking the chance of another failure while I'm driving (I may not be so lucky the next time). Anybody else have similar issues?
Thanks Bob

A quick search shows many stories of TPMS stems breaking, but I didn't see any for the LR2. In the cases where this happened, they speculated it was the result of an aluminum stem with a metal valve cap that was exposed to road salt during the winter. Do you have metal valve caps (mine are plastic)? Do you live in an area with snow during the winter where your tires might be exposed to road salt?

I live New Jersey and yes salt is used all the time during the winter months when snow or ice is forecast.
