I went through this with my LR2. One fob from the used car place and the emergency key was never cut. Of course the fob battery was dead. I got a $24 fob from Amazon and the Autel AP200. Watched a video by powerfulukltd on how to program the new fob and it worked. Also, in the meantime we went to Jake Kaplans and ordered a new factory fob and the emergency key cut to the VIN. It was expensive but I wanted to have at lest one factory fob. I could have gotten the key only as it had to be ordered separately. Once I got the new emergency key I took it and the 2 blanks to Ace hardware where they cut the keys. I found that no locksmiths would or could make a key from the VIN.
For the original fob with the dead battery I got a new one on Amazon (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and empty shells (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and it is good as new. Now have 3 working fobs complete.

 

Ok all thanks so much for the advice. I am somewhat tech savy so gonna try and buy a new fob and program it with the product suggested. Then i guess ill try to buy a key for it and take it somewhere to have it cut. So the key fobs i looked at says they cant be programmed by me only by dealer or locksmith. Any suggestions on what key fob i should get that will work with the programmer?

 

X AUTOHAUX worked fine for me last time.

The fob worked fine, the Autel software was a little wonky as usual.

 

Forgot to mention in my post that Autel program indicated 30 maximum fobs. t seems that when programming a new fob, any fobs not present are disabled. When I had the new factory fob programmed I also gave them my 2 previously working fobs to insure they all worked.
If this car ws for my use I would have stuck to the Amazon fob but my DW wanted to have a genuine factory fob.
