What engine do you have now? If a V6 gasoline version, then it's a no brainer (Ford Cologne) but if not, better get out your hot rod/engineering tools, because you are going to need them all to do a GM LS engine conversion in any modern computer controlled Land Rover LR3/4/Range Rover vehicle. The transmission control processor (electronic) requires that you have inputs from the engine ECU to determine when to shift, and the whole process (including the terrain control functions) just gets more complex from there. It is not a job for the uninitiated, but I'm sure it can be done if you are determined, there is I think one person in Texas who has done this swap, but have not seen or heard much about it. Good luck, and if you proceed, please post back on your progress, I'm sure many of us would be extremely interested...

Well if it is the Ford Cologne V6 then I have documented my own conversion on this site, so you can have a look at that, it is not too hard to do but you must fabricate an engine mount bracket for the driver's side (North America version) and the rest of the Land Rover parts just bolt on. If not the Cologne V6 then there is a lot more work involved...

thoughts I could figure out on a long winding road how to convert the ECU to work with the 6.2 engine and send the correct adjustments to the terrain response system... eventually..... being the big word ....
but if I do a coil over conversion then I can delete the terrain response all together.
what are the community thoughts here ?

If it will fit in the engine compartment and you can make it mate with the transfer case using the Ford 6R80 transmission and an aftermarket 6R80 transmission controller you'll be all set. It sounds like a pretty ambitious undertaking, but if you can deal with the electronics and the mechanical details of getting everything to work together you should have a pretty interesting project, which I'm sure we all would enjoy following. If you can't get the CAN buss protocol messages to talk together you may be able to use the Ford 6.2L ECU and an aftermarket transmission controller to work together while disconnecting the Land Rover ECU and transmission controller, but I saw a Chev conversion where the individual used the Land Rover ECU to fire up that Chev (4.3L V8) engine, so with enough research and determination anything is possible.
