06 LR3 SE Won't Start
I have a buddy that is looking at a 2006 LR3. SE model with a v6. Only has about 27000 miles on it. The current owner bought it from an auction. It has the key, but it won't start. It turns over but just won't start up. Sounds like a dead key battery with a dead immobilizer, but that would be too easy. Any thoughts on this? Would a standard type scanner tell me anything? Would I need a land rover specific scanner? I may take a gamble on it if I can get it for the right price, like I need another 4wd......thanks Phil
I will refer you to my reply I posted this morning before your new thread about the same problem

Sorry I'm not sure how to copy an address for a proper link on my phone.
I am not able to give advice about scanners. I do not know much about them

I went down and took at look at the LR3. What a pig. It only has 27,000 miles on it, according to the odometer, but what a wreck, the battery was completely dead so I couldn't even try to turn it over. The dash looked like a puzzle, it was cracked all over. all kinds of stuff was broken inside. It has some minor damage on the driver's side that looked like it was repaired by a three-year old. The interior was so dirty, carpets, leather, headliner, broken main glass roof, looked like someone jammed a bat up through the roof from the inside, suspension was totally flat, I could go on, but you get the picture, probably could be had for $5000 or $6000 but it would still be a money pit. The owner said that they have never been able to get it started, he has had it a year. At first the owner acted like hehe didn't know much about land rovers. The more I talked to him, the more I found that he was pretty knowledgeable and that he had a great deal of diagnostic work done, still, no start. Sounds like he is considering parting it out. Probably a pretty good idea. Hard to believe that someone would let a nice, high-end super capable 4wd into such a wreck. Phil
If the instrument pack has been damaged or the wiring then that's probably why it won't start. I've heard of ****ling issues which turned out to be bad ribbon connection to the IPAC so if the general state of the vehicle suggests no love, then that's probably likely.
Airplanes can be much the same - it they do not fly, they are future beer cans and sell for that price.
Vehicles are the same; that is why you see brand new pickups in the scrap yard - worth more in parts than they are parked.
Buy it for scrap, (3 tons of it), and then a second one that runs and you have a good source of parts.
Four 18" factory rims retail on eBay for a thousand. 18" are the ones owners want; the air springs are probably still good - probably get five hundred for the four of them etc.
