Default The 1000 Mile Journey Commences-The First Step

Alright, you guys got me into this so lets work it out...

Picking up my 07 HSE tomorrow from the dealer's "as traded" wholesellers lot... got the inspection done at the LR dealer today and while there were some issues, the truck overall checked out pretty good. No wet spots to contend with and the EAS seems good except for a note about a loud compressor exhaust. Mostly alignment, control arms, tie rods and needing fluid flushes. A few systems to restore and then we're off to preventative maintenance land.

My first concern and question is on my rear prop shaft that has developed some play in the steady bearing. Can someone source me a part number for the bearing and has anyone done this job yet? Difficulty level?

Thanx... many questions yet to come.

And many thanx to dole out...

Thank you for the link to the diy writeup... not sure if tackling this myself will be in the cards vs sourcing a complete one... we'll see how budget goes.

I don't remember reading about loud exhaust from the compressor... what could this be and is it something to be concerned with. The techs did write up that there was some sort of repair done with compressor but they weren't sure what and how it would affect unit. Is there a muffler/silencer on the compressor exhaust?

Found a couple of salvage drive shaft assemblies at a great price. Under $200 shipped... the rubber around the bearing is in great shape, so for now, it will get me past this hump til I can address all the issues. Then, if necessary, I can look at replacing it again with a new oem online.

Loud compressor exhaust, my guess would be a failed line between the compressor and it's muffler. I melted my exhaust line (plastic) once when experimenting with shorty exhaust. My guess is it won't cause any functional issues, just be a little annoying.

I just put a set of these on my rig last week. Better? I don't know if they're 'better', but they at least don't have that ridiculous s/s cap that ALWAYS causes problems.
