2005 LR3 single loud snapping noise in front end
Ok a elusive snapping single loud noise from my front end when backing out of the garage slowly and brakes being applied
The lower and upper control arms are new as well as the tie rod ends and sway-bar links rotors and brake pads too!
This noise started shortly after the lower control arms were replaced (not by me)
so I replaced the upper control arms and all the other parts mentioned
could it be a bad wheel bearing I checked them no movement that I could see.
its a disturbing loud snap sound almost sounds dangerous
Any ideas anyone?
im getting ready to bring it to a LR qualified garage to have it checked

point of interest I have not replaced the sway bar bushings.Would they cause a loud snapping noise moving slowly forward or reverse??

This sounds kinda like a new one to me. Then again "snap" versus "clunk" or "clank" can make a difference. Does happen with wheels straight or turned or both? When throttle is applied or just idle? Neutral? Can you get an audio clip of it? Do you have the rear locker?
It happens when wheel is straight so I don’t think it’s steering related. Happen after vehicle has sat for awhile and happens after brake is applied something I definitely wrong too loud drives good no pulling or noise at normal or higher speeds

After all that work I would suspect a loose bolt allowing two parts to collide. I would check the brake caliper mounting bolts and check to see if the rotor is making contact with the rim. If a bolt worked its way out the entire caliper could swing back and whack the rim. I would also check the camber bolts on those control arms to make sure they are tight, no scoring on the mount points. Lastly, the sway bar gets pretty close to the control arm. I'd look for signs of the sway bar whacking against the control arm, and check all those end-link bolts.
It could something as simple as a brake pad unsticking or a stuck caliper that pops loose when in revere. As above take a close look at the brake mounts to include the caliper slides. Put some of that purple goo in the rubber cover on the caliper slides and the back of the pads to prevent them from sticking on the rotor.

First I want to thank all you guys for your input.I worked in the HVAC field for 30 years part of that time was spent as a problem resolver. So listening to all your suggestions saved me some $.
I’ve recently 3 months ago had 2 level fusion back surgery and I been restricted as to how much bending lifting and twisting I could do.
Lower control arms were replaced by an outside garage as well as the FEA so that’s where I started
Bingo! The rear bushing bolt was loose! I tightened it at ride height approximately 18.5 inches and the snapping noise has disappeared.
I double checked all the other points and parts mentioned earlier they are all good. I run Michelin tires on my LR3 and they are getting close to needing replacement so at that time I’ll get the alignment checked. Thanks again all.
