LR3 parking issue? Transfer case issue?
Okay.... this is a sill one I think. So I always block my wheels but tonight I wanted to check something quick by lifting each front wheel from the lower arm, one at a time. My driveway has a very slight downward pitch. When I tried lifting my front passenger wheel the whole truck rolled back. I figured there was some driveline slack so did it a few times. But after rolling back over a foot, I stopped. I have no parking brake system right now - all the parts are here ready for install tho!
So I bring this up because my transfer case has a weird snap noise seconds after I park (another thread). But I am also confused as to how "park" thus works so I wonder if I have a greater issue. I am sued to rear wheel drive vehicles where its always safe to lift the front but when lifting the back, always chock the front wheels of course. So on the LR3 parking happens in the transmission of course. But the drive shafts come off the transfer case. And the transfer has a clutch of course. No clue how it works, but I assumed the rear shaft was direct drive and the front output somehow when through the magic clutches. Of course I then looking at workshop guides and got even more confused because it looked like the rear is what actually was driven by clutch.
Anyway... So if the front is all that locks in park. I think I am fine, as lifting just one wheel on an open diff will cause them to rotate in opposite directions - and in my case, with one up in the air, that means it can roll. But if the rears should also be somehow locked in the TC and now allowed to roll, then I have an issue. Frankly I wonder if I even have rear wheel drive but did not have time to jack the rear up and see what happens in drive. I should.
So experts, normal or not? On a side note, I also have a transfer case on hand to swap in... eventually....
