Default 2006 LR3 4.4V8 Coolant not releasing from reservoir.

Hey everybody, this is my first time posting here and I’d really appreciate any help. My ‘06 lr3 v8 had a coolant leak and I’ve since fixed that issue. Then it wouldn’t take any coolant so I removed the thermostat to see if it would allow coolant to flow to the engine. Still overheats and the coolant level in the reservoir is still the same. Any thoughts? If so, how big of an issue is it to fix?
thank you!

I had an issue similar.

The engine needs the thermostat installed to run correctly. I removed mine to see what temperature it would get to without a thermostat. I assumed it would just take a long time for the engine to get to operating temp, but the temperature alway rose pretty quickly. As soon as I put in a new thermostat everything ran fine. It seems the thermostat is needed to direct the coolant to the proper channels inside the thermostat housing.

If you are idling the engine, coolant does not flow well if there is air. You have to rev the engine a bit to get the pump to move it all about. You do so with the expansion tank cap removed.

Yeah, put the thermostat back in and prefill the hoses where you can from their highest point, reconnect them, squeeze the big ones, run the engine for a couple minutes with reservoir open while giving it some revs. Then repeat the hose fill thing again. Start engine again and bleed the reservoir for a couple cycles, refilling as necessary. I've never had problems getting the air out when I've prefilled the hoses that way.
Do all that, or do a vacuum fill/bleed.
