There are a tonne of videos out there on attacking the alternator from underneath that give you a great idea of how to approach the job and what you will need. This video is the one I kept referring to.
My alternator died about 2 days ago and I replaced it the following day after it had died.
I figured I would include this tip that saved some struggles.
Once you have disconnected the battery negative lead, and shielded it, the following steps
Remove the MAF
Remove the air filter box completely. Remove the top of the air filter box, the filter and the lower half of the box. Remove the screws some Philips some torx screws securing the box and the tubing for the air
Once you see no screws left (double check around the outside and inside of the lower half) pull straight up! It’s a pressure fitment. It will pop right out!
Once that is out of the way you can snake an arm from the top to reach the electrical clip, terminal nut, and top alternator bolt!
Moving forward after disconnecting the top components, you can crawl under and after removing the splash guard, get the two lower bolts and then slowly hold and lower the alternator.
When installing you replacement alternator, you will need a second person.
your friend whom you have bribed with beer, needs to be standing with their arm snaked in through to connect the top bolt while you are underneath and holding / wiggling the alternator for them to thread the top bolt.
Once it bites loosely thread in the lower bolts and you can have them reattach the electrical clip and positive lead to the alternator.
saves a lot of time, cursing, swearing and laying on your back farting around to get those components from below. It’s also easier than removing the viscous fan, shroud, and other components.
Air filter box is completely removed, you can see where to go in You can see the top connections for the alternator. Easily snake your arm in and start disconnecting.
