2006 LR3 Locking Rear Diff with Huge Leak
2006 LR3 Locking Rear Diff 121k miles
Huge leak from missing plug on rear diff. Not sure what hole is for or what plugs it. See pics.
Also found spring and pin / rod laying on drive. Thinking it filled the opening in diff and /or/ contained by plug that came out.
Fluid all over.
Can some one tell me what the open port is?
This may explain the rear diff cutch sensor fault on GAP tool

I am baffled by how the fill plug can possibly fail in that way. I am pretty sure mine is a solid hunk of metal. That just looks wrong to me. Also the torque value is not super high.
That part... I am not certain its from the rear diff. Looks more transmission related. Here are some pics, my only guess is that maybe that pin/spring could ride inside the damper on the rear diff, but that is never removed and I don't see how the part could come out unless there is some catastrophic internal damage to the diff. And even then the odds of it getting out of the fill plug would be insane.

The more I look, the more it seems the fill plug was messed with. Note the clean metal around the fill plug opening. That should not exist because the fill plug is just that, a plug. Not like a nut with a cap on it that would flange out over the casting like that. In the end it does not matter, but it may when installing a new one since I don't see threads in there. Almost looks like something more has to be threaded out first.

The LR3 runs fine testing but still throwing diff codes. Not test again till fill diff and plug.
The diff or axle or pinion has made a clank noise for a while when put in Reverse from Drive or Drive to Reverse. I think the rod and spring dropped from rear diff... just low odds two unlikely things happened at the same time at different areas
