Correct...in Rock Craw, proceed up hill, front diff locks, continue till forward motion stops with traction lost (stuck) and rear diff does not lock. Reverse, repeat up hill till traction loss and rear diff still never lock. Repeat 7 or 8 more times with same result, repeat and rear diff locks! Once rear diff locks, entire system will function consistently in Sand, Mud Rut, and Rock Crawl Terrain selections locking and unlocking in turns, on harder soil... front and rear diff lock smoothly and quickly when going back up sand hill. It is the first rear diff lock that is hard to get.

When I refer to front, I meant front diff. Is that wrong?

Default Front diff is open...

...the center diff is locking.

Boy, there are just so many variables. I think you are not gonna be satisfied until you buy a couple quarts of Unicorn Tears and change the rear diff fluid yourself!!

you are correct about the fluid change, it will make me feel better.... at least I will be sure.

just smart enough to ask a dumb question... what do you mean 'Center diff is locking'?

Default Center diff...

...is the one on the display that is in the middle of the graphic and has a padlock on it. The LR3 has three differentials. The front one is always an open diff. The center one is a locking diff...and the rear is open as a standard feature, locking as an optional one.

What are you looking at on the graphic to determine if the rear diff is locked???

Looking at the two padlocks on the display. Your right, I am referring to Center when typing Front.. Rarely, but at times the center diff unlocks while the rear remains locked. The center locks quick and will automatically unlock then re-lock as expected. Plus center remains locked in reverse. The rear diff is difficult to make show locked on screen. When the rear lock on display shows locked, there is a noticeable improvement in traction. The LR actually does well all tracking modes off, but a little better with center locked, then a little better still with the rear locking

Sounds about right....it's fun (for me) to watch the display (when I can without getting distracted) and see when the rear is locked versus the center versus both....but mostly I just let it do its thing without trying to out-smart it. I am almost never traction-limited on the trail.

Found out fluid used from the shop's office personnel,
fr diff, rear diff, and t case all in
Amsoil SVG 75/90

Just called and spoke to AMSOIL tech support. According to AMSOIL, their 75/90 SVG
rear diff - should NOT be in the 2006 LR3 with electronic locking differential.
transfer case - should NOT be used
front diff - should ok

AMSOIL tech said to drain as soon as possible it will damage vehicle. Tech did not give any detail except to say there are different friction properties for electronic locking diff and open diff.

Sounds consistent with what Dakota told you. I'd be asking that shop for a refund, then using the $ to buy the appropriate fluid and do the job yourself, if you have the resources (space, tools, time).

Update:
Shop used AMSOIL SVG 75/90 in all front diff, transfer case, and rear diff. I called AMSOIL with tech support saying NO, remove from rear diff and transfer case ASAP, and maybe ok at front diff. AMSOIL tech said they had no appropriate additive when I ask specifically. Multiple confirmation on this from LR dealer service shops and mechanics.

Called indy shop and owner called me back. He defended the product selection as better. But he did say if I was unhappy with the fluids, bring in fluids of my choice, he will change all, and reimburse me for the fluids bought. Hey, he was honest about what was used and willing to change the fluid. I really don't feel I can ask more. When someone is willing to work with me on a situation, it goes a long way with me. I hope all goes well and the issue is sorted. He did call back saying he called AMSOIL and there was an additive with carbon he did use, but we still agreed to use the Land Rover approved fluid. Seems the pads or clutches need to slip a bit when locked and the additional carbon provides that.

Hope no damage done in diff or TC; has 1k miles on this fluid

Does anybody know if incorrect fluid could hamper rear lock and how long before damage would be expected.
