Default 2008 LR3 Not Starting

Hi guys,

My wife had a minor accident and ran into a short pole in our 2008 V8 LR3. It ruined the front passenger tyre, ruined the tyre rim, caused some alignment issues with the steering and did some minor cosmetic damage to the front right bumper panel near the parking sensor. She took it into the shop and got it all fixed. She drove it home from the shop fine.

She left it in our garage for a couple of hours, but then when she went to use it the next time it does not start. We had someone come to check the battery and they said it is fine.

What we see when we try to start it is:
1. Before you turn the key, one of the lights on the dash flashes every two seconds. I looked up this light in the tech documents and it says that it indicates that the immobilizer is active
2. When I turn the key to start the car, I hear a sound like the doors are locking, then a second or so later I hear it sound like it is unlocking.
3. The immobilizer light is still flashing once every two seconds
4. If I try to turn on the radio, it turns on for a second or two, but then turns off
5. If I press one of the keys on the navigation system, I see the white land rover screen come up but then it turns off after a second or two

I looked on the forums and it mentioned that trying to lock the car, then unlock it with the physical key on the drivers side door. When I try to do this, I can unlock the car, but if I try to open the door the alarm sounds and I have to press once of the keys on my key fob to disable it.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

It sounds like you need to call the dealer. They may need to reset the immobilizer. You may also have an issue with one or more damaged sensors in damaged area.

When you turn the key, do you hear nothing from the engine area? Or perhaps do you hear a single loud click?

Seriously doubt the ECM would allow the engine to be started in this state. I'd say no click at all if I had to bet. In this case (very rarely do I say this) take it to the dealer due to their advanced diagnostic equipment - disable / reset applicable sensors and be on your way.

If you're lucky you can get them to pay for it on their own dime / insurance estimate if applicable. It sounds like one of the immobilizer sensors or impact sensors has been triggered, damaged, etc.. and is preventing certain features and attempting to unlock or interfere with door locking.
