Default 2008 LR3 - V6 - Tranny Slipping

Hi everyone; we have had our used LR3 for 2 months now. Love it! We bought from a very reputable Mercedes dealer and they say they gave it the works before handing it over to us.

My question; does anyone else experience that their transmission does not engage when pulling the lever from Park down to drive? just wont engage until you put it back in park and try it again.

I would appreciate any input; thanks!

So you have to do it twice for it to engage? What about sport mode?

And no, haven't had that issue with mine

the works - may not have included things you may want done. Attached please find the factory shop manual maintenance list. IMHO the fluids change outs should be done more frequently, I don't trust 10 year or lifetime transmission fluids, etc. Or long term drain interval on a differential that has 1/3 the fluid capacity of my D1, in a truck that weighs 1300 pounds more, and has 150 HP going to the front axle instead of 94.

If selector position does not match dash display, may need to adjust cable or suggest that to a competent shop. Here is some of what is involved, attached also.

Thanks for the reply guys. Maybe i didnt explain it properly. I can elaborate.

When i take the Automatic Shifter from Park to Drive, sometimes the Drive Gear does not appear to catch, or engage, and i just have the vehicle revving. If i put it back to park and then back to drive, it usually isnt a problem, and it usually wont do it again for that day unless it sits for long periods. Especially in cold weather.

A small leak/loss of fluid over a long period of time on a "sealed for life" transmission where you can't check the fluid level, on a cold day where the fluid is more viscous...plausible in my opinion. Have you ever started it on a cold day and let it warm up for 5-10 minutes and tried shifting into gear? How many miles?

I would say a drain/flush/fill is the first order of business and to make sure the latest software update is uploaded. This means dealer ($800) or qualified Indy ($???).

Look this over to see if you want to DIY the drain and fill items.

what do you think about doing the drain and fill without replacing the filter? To replace the filter, you have to jack the engine up a few cm's to get the integrated tube/pan/flter combo clear (or cut the tube). I'd think a drain and fill would be the least you could do on your own and get some benefit. $800 for the dealer is stiff!

here's the fluid; cheapest price for this yet ($25/Liter and free shipping for orders over $45):
ATF/ Automatic Transmission Fluid By ZF OEM 1 Liter 6HPXXX

BP Utah has it for $30/liter

at 3.5 to 4 liters, it's going to cost a minimum of $100 for fluid. I haven't found the Shell fluid anywhere. I'll see if there's any other BMW sites that carry the fulid for cheaper

$22.95/liter
