addition of foglights; addition of towing wiring; drl
Ok, I've got three questions:
1) my 06 LR3 did not come with the front foglights, but has the rear ones. I found a local seller that is selling the front foglight housing along with the foglight and wiring. How gard will it be to install this? It almost looks like I just need to cut a hole slightly smaller than the housing and just slide the housing in and somehow secure? If so, how do I connect the wiring for the foglights? Do all LR3 have the wiring harness ready or will I need to run wiring to a new relay or something? Lastly, I will want the new front foglights to be connected to the same relay as my back foglights - basically when I pull the light switch inside for the rear fogs, I want both the front and rear to go on - how do I do that?
2) my LR3 also did not come with a hitch. I popped off the hitch cover and could not find any wiring or plug either. I've seen a few wiring setups on ebay - how hard is it to install? Can I buy a generic plu and make it work and fit?
3) I b ought my LR3 from a broker that imported it from the US into Canada. He said he had the local LR dealership do the daylight running lights. All I notice is that the headlight is on 24/7 at the same brightness as if I were to actually turn on the headlights from the switch. Is this normal for daylight running lights? I ask because I would have expected the small circular lights to be the drl or at least that if the headlights are the drl that they would be dimmer until the actual headlights are turned on. Also, I've read that the drl feature is a simple computer setting that can be changed if you have the right programmer. Is this programmer cheap and easy to obtain - is it worth getting for adjusting other settings?
Thanks
I have been looking into this so this might not be exact so others can correct me.
I think that you need to install a new light switch, one that has two pull out positions, one for front fog and one for the back fog that youhave. I believe the harness is there but there is a wiring loom thathave to plug into it. The bumper actually has the cut out locations marked on the inside so you have to take it off and the mounting brackets are there also for the lights (at least on mine they are).

For towing, there is a towing elctrical wiring kit from LR that you can get that hooks right up to my understanding.
I do not know about the Canadian light thing.

Thanks for the clarification. So, do I need to remove the entire front bumper or do the two corners come off separate? Once off, the cutting of the holes seems simple, and it sounds like the mounting brackets are also on theback of the corner pieces. How about the wiring - is there a harness ready for the foglights and if so what is this harness wired to (which switch)?
I know the light switch is different for LR3 with foglights - basically they pull out in two positions, where mine without the stock foglights onmly pulls out in one position (for the rear foglights). I want to wire it such that the ciurrent polight switch powers both the front and rear foglights from the one pull-out position - how would I do this?
Thanks
You don't. You would needthe dual foglight position headlamp switch. Also, you will need to check with the dealer on configuring the bcm for front foglights as well, if it is possible, I haven't ran into this, yet. There will be a dead-headed connector behind the right front headlamp assembly, assuming the body harness is the same for all trim levels. You will need the front foglight harness. The whole bumper comes off as one piece. As far as the daylight running lamps go, that must be activated by the dealership. The towing harness does connect right in and is a plug and play accessory.
For those of you with the front foglights, how many of you drive with them on all the time just cause they make the truck look better head on? I know with my H2 that I have it wired so that the foglights are on 24/7 (makes the H2 look more sporty and aggressive). I'm thinking that if I were to add the front foglights, I will want them on too all the time, so I may just wire them into the same relay as thedaylight running lights (these are on 24/7 too cause mine was converted for Canadian standards).
Or I may just wire them into the one pull-out light switch since I really do not need the two pullout to turn the front and rear foglights on separately (I do not mind having them both on). Can someone please help me understand why I can't wire itthat way?
Lastly, can someone please send me a pic of their hitch with the cover off? You mention that the towing wire is a plug and play. But looking at my setup, I can not see anywhere to plug in a wire connector. Mine has two opening on each end which seem to be where the adapater/plug would be mounted - but again I have no where for a harness to be plugged in?
Thanks
The white ground wire is grounded to a stud behind the left hand rear cargo area cover, which is also where two of the connectors go(you will see two connectors back there with blanking plugs). You will need to remove the left hand taillight assembly. The harness for the trailer hook-up runs from the receiver area along the rear bumper, then up behind the taillight assembly where it connects to the other side of the second harness that comes with the kit. The wiring kit comes with instructions, you just need to be able to read and understand heiroglyphics. Also, wiring the both foglights to the same circuit will draw excessive amperage and blow the fuse, don't up the fuse amperage or you will burn up wires instead. There is also a bit more to the setup, but it is only necessary to know that it is not a good idea.
