Default Air Suspension Fail

All,
I have a 2006 LR3 -- recently the air suspension has completely failed. Ya it is low-riding. Prior to the fail I installed a set of Johnson Rods lifting the vehicle about 2.5 inches. I added 275/65R/18 tires.
I need to replace with a coil over conversion kit. Any ideas on who might make one that will provide me adequate lift for the tire set up I have?

What's wrong with the suspension?

These ride poorly converted to springs but I guess try atlantic british, rovers north, lucky 8 all the usual for the springs

...how soon "prior to the fail?" It's possible that your rods lifted the LR3 too high and caused an "out of range" fault. Those are easily correctable. It's also possible that your larger tires tore up the wiring harness along the frame rail on the driver's side. Also easily correctable.

Two things:

1. Switching to coils is stupid, if you are an off-roader.
2. Using Johnson Rods instead of an IIDTool, is not advisable. The IIDTool is about $250 more than Johnson Rods but for that money you get WAAAY more than a poor man's lift.

My advice: fix your suspension; zip-tie off your wiring loom, put the Johnson Rods in a box, buy an IIDTool, keep your EAS.

+1 on all that. Exactly what is wrong with it, leak, compressor failure, etc.

Did you get a 4 wheel alignment and check your steering angle sensor. If that's out of alignment it will cause your truck to drop.

The issue is the vehicle is lowriding and red suspension fail light is on dash. I have changed brake light switch a number of times and replaced the compressor in the past. This is the first time is has completely failed. Compressor does not pump at all. All since I put on new larger tires and johnson rods. It was fine for about three weeks then bam!!!

I have a feeling that this may be a symptom of a height sensor going bad. I still occasionally get the same red suspension fail light and lowering to the bump stops when I raise my vehicle 2-2.5" using my IID tool. So basically, same thing as you, but I can just lower mine again and clear the codes with the IID tool and everything is back to normal. I really think it's due to a height sensor that just goes out of range, but I haven't narrowed it down to which one yet. :P

...but an "OUT OF RANGE" fault is generally amber and self-clears. Also, I don't think it puts you at the bump stops. Could be a "cross-articulation" fault if two sensors get way out of whack, though.

Took it to the garage and it is a failed compressor. And one sensor. Will cost me about $1500. Sticking with the air suspension.

Sounds like your compressor went Tango Uniform and while you were in low-rider mode you tore up a sensor with your (over-sized) tires, maybe? Those things don't usually go bad by themselves. I had a similar experience 2 years ago; but with an air shock going out instead of the compressor.

I hope your garage can do all the "other stuff" necessary like the software and sensor calibration. That can also be frustrating.

Glad you're sticking with the EAS; it's the right move if you're gonna wheel it. Make sure to zip-tie your wiring harness!
