While the whole city of Birmingham, AL shutdown over the past 24 hours, the LR3 was one of the only 4x4s that could make it up the hills of Birmingham. We shuttled many elderly and parents to their kids. I watched jeeps and trucks struggle. This is why there will always be a LR in my garage. At no point did I ever come close to getting stuck in the ice/snow. Once again this vehicle has shown the when all is shut down, I can overcome with an LR as a tool!

 

I agree. When we got snow in the latter part of last year, I was amazed at how well it did. My other Rovers always did well, but none had the DSC like the LR3. It's was hard to get it to slide even when trying to slide on purpose.

 

Tenacious grip even on a snow covered vertical surface! Truly amazing!

I have to say how shocked I am by how paralyzed the south became after a couple of inches of snow. I drove through 3 inches of fresh snow this morning at about 50 mph on my way to a project in my company pickup in 2 wd without incident. As usual, the streets and highways were full of other vehicles doing the same thing.

It looked like in Atlanta it basically took a few people that didn't have a clue how to deal with slippery conditions to get stuck or spun around and then every single car behind them was stopped dead in their tracks. People sleeping in their cars overnight, 12 hours for 9 mile commutes, just awful. What a mess.

Yah when I first got this one we got some fresh snow around 2" and so I went and found some un-violated parking lots to do some do-nuts in and get a feel for the old gal under controlled conditions. It wasn't happening, even with the drastically road biased tires I couldn't get it to slip or slid no matter what I did. My former Unlimited Rubicon would have been all over the road.

 

I was so looking forward to that snow finally hitting here in the Alamo City. Unfortunately, all we received was a bit of freezing rain and sleet. Not even enough to cover the ground...just the front of my vehicle while driving my son to work. I was hoping to finally get to utilize another Terrain Response setting.

 

it is amazing how many people buy 4x4s and just don't know how to drive them. I'll admit, though, I'm a bit skeptical whenever anyone claims their stock rig is much better than anyone elses (Jeep or Rover).

But, in my continuing effort to make sure people don't put on too many airs, I'll give you this.

Monday morning, my 4x4 Search and Rescue group was called to go out and rescue 3 rigs that were stuck and broke. They were are Land Rovers. Respectively, their problems were: a broken axle, a blown transmission and a LR stuck up to its... well, undercarriage.

They were rescued by two Jeeps and a new Land cruiser (FJ)

 

Well, I was passing Jeeps and Land Cruisers in ditches. Nothing can compare to an LR, nothing!

 

My D2 did pretty well too. I was out in my area of Bham shuttling people to their abandoned cars and clearing cars from the entrance to my neighborhood that couldn't make it up the hill. Also many of the abandoned and stuck 4x4's and cars that I saw were left because they simply couldn't go anywhere because of all the cars in the way.
