Everyone - being retired and bored - is there a serious (seems that way to me) need to replace the plastic cooling system parts in the Lr3's and Lr4's?? I have access to 3 d scanning and printing and manufacturing in both aluminum and SS hydro-forming.

Seems a life span of 100K miles, for a genuine crossover assembly, is about average from what I have read. Some less, some more. I think proper coolant and coolant age play a part in that. So if people are changing a $120 part every 100k, I am not sure if creating something new is worth the expense.
I suspect the water pump is plastic to reduce cavitation and foaming. At least thats usually the reason. I have only read a couple cases of the impeller bits ending up broken off. From what I read the AC Delco unit is one piece with a metal impeller, so many seems to switch to that over OEM. With that said the OEM design seems very robust with few failures.
