Pull out from the rear, wrestle back in from the rear.

its possible. I did it 3 weeks ago. Not fun.

You didn't have to remove anything for clearance? Did you remove both at the same time or did you separate and remove one at a time?

I removed the transfer case support, driver side cat pipe, and the front driveshaft.
