Ya, you know that would be a great box to check (HD Package) for the price & probably your first choice going into that exciting buy for you. I wish I could live that moment if $ would allow me to do that. I agree on the front locker, not sure about the difference that would achieve. I am not going to get in a hurry to buy my LR3. I am going to pick with past service history, one owner and pre inspection at a certified LR dealer. Any other help/suggestions with my LR3 (2007,2008) buy being that it will probably have in excess of 80,000 Miles would be much appreciated.

Indeed, it was an exciting time, especially seeing it on the ship's manifest with my name on it; and then of course taking delivery was exhilarating. I didn't mean to gloat at all...these are expensive vehicles and I saved up for it for years. Didn't know what model it would be but I knew I wanted a Land Rover. It's stupid. Buying new cars is foolish, I know...but I love 'em. ...and I'm a buy and keep forever type person, so that kinda sorta justifies it.

Nicely timed posting!

I've just recently picked up my next offroad project. I originally was hunting an HD package for the rear locker. After looking at 15 different trucks, harassing my (semi) local LR dealership looking up VINs to see if they had it or not, I ended up realizing just how rare they are in the USA, and ended up just hunting a very nice truck instead, with or without locker.

So, I'll be doing lockers front and rear of my new truck - and I stumbled upon this little tidbit!

Free compressor with a locker (or 2!) purchase!

Okay....but I was only joking about a front locker for an LR3. Have you confirmed that this can be done? I can't imagine that the ARB product can be put on either axle.

Why couldn't it be done? When the locker is engaged the axle will have zero slip, so the on board traction control will never kick in. The LR3 computers wont care that it's there. The internals of the LR3 differential is similar to a Ford Ranger, enough that it's basically the exact same locking unit that ARB makes for the Ranger:

While developing the Air Locker for the 2012 T6 Ford Ranger & Mazda BT50, ARB Engineers noted the similarities
between the differential dimensions with the Land Rover Discovery Series 3. With the only difference being the ring
gear diameter, this resulted in development of the front Air Locker for the Land Rover Discovery 3 and 4.

Yes, ARB sells two models - RD218 for the rear axle and the RD217 for the front:

ARB Air Locker - Land Rover LR3 LR4 Front (RD217)

Ill have more 1st hand experience next week....

Sweet! Glad I asked the question; I didn't know...and the pdf you'd linked was a screenshot and didn't state explicitly that it was a front-locker.

Hmmm....new accessory for ME? Maybe....I do already have on-board air, so maybe.

Here is the deal on the ARB Guys. The installation is not for the faint of heart. The kit does not come with bearings, seals or gears.

The guys at British4x4outfitters are building them out ready to install. Probably worthwhile giving Josh a call on that. That would exchange your old one for a ready to install ARB air locker. You will also need a compressor for it.

The new one would be a fully remanufactured unit with new bearings, gears on the rear, and the ARB kit. They've done a bunch of them at this stage so if you want to spend the extra money, it can be done.

The kit is designed for the front diff, and the rear "open" diff. If you have a locker it won't work for you, you already have it, but you could fit the front. Frankly, I have the locker, and don't see anything a locker on the front would have done for me so far.

I hope this un-dashes your hopes.

Yeah...my brain and my heart have already had the conversation about why I don't need to add a front-locker. For all the wheelin' I've done I can only think of ONE time I was traction-limited, and that was in an impossible mud pit that I pretty much KNEW I'd get stuck in without more speed than I was willing to carry.

I'm usually approach/breakover/departure angle limited....not traction.

I just wouldn't want someone to rush off, order this kit with false expectations. But, there are solutions.

Yup, I'm tickled with my winch. You definitely need to also carry some shackles and a ****** block or two. I've got a new hitch coming out that has a nice place for a shackle on it for the rear.
