The bg fluid claims to be compatible. You could also bring your own I suppose.

I would not allow them to use their own fluid. You absolutely need the right fluid in this transmission.

You could start your search here;
ZF Services, LLC
  • 777 Hickory Hill Drive
  • Vernon Hills , Illinois 60061
  • USA
  • Phone: +1 847 478 6868

Or narrow down some research here, and let your fingers do the walking.

Thanks, but I can't see who left me this valuable information its like I can't see no one.

Also you mentioned a metal pan. So the transmission pan of a heavy duty lR3 is a piece of ashtray plastic? It is tucked away so doubt anything can hit it but still why cheap plastic?

Is this what I need?

No luck on finding a place yet. Been playing phone tag with ZF.

I did call a few places in Detroit area. The owner has been doing it for 30 years said to leave it alone. Said what usually goes wrong is not from a lack of maintenance its from the radiator going bad and pouring water into the transmission. He said you can get 300k miles on the same fluid.

You can order the metal pan kit in CA. There is a ton of plastic stuff on these rovers, with varying degrees of success... for example, the thermostat housings and various coolant junctions out of plastic have an ongoing track record of failure, likewise, the coolant reservoir has issues with the float crapping out-- how hard is it to make something float in the 21st century. On the contrary, the intake manifold is also some kind of plastic, and I haven't read about any failures yet (let me not be the first one please.

With a metal pan kit from The CTSC - ZF Parts you can simply unbolt the old pan, cut the neck off the filter, and slip the assembly out. Then you can refit the new metal pan, filter, without lifting anything.

Next time around, you can do just a filter and gasket. You will lose about a quart of fluid capacity.

ZF called me back, he said +- 100k miles, it depends on how you drive etc.

He said for me to look for a Boch certified service center.
I found one in my town but they have never done a Landrover tranny oil change before. I told them to look at the You Tube video before they agree.

I would need to provide the oil and pan.

Hmm do I want to be the first LR they do?

And is this the kit I need?

Oil change kit for 6HP26/28/32

I did not see a metal pan.

So if i get a metal pan I loose 20 percent oil capacity? Hmm Not sure I like that.

I replaced fluid at 98k miles. I will do it again maybe at 150k or 135k. I don't know if I'll switch to the metal pan. I may miss my extra quart of oil...and with my rate of tacking on mileage I just don't change it often enough to need the convenience.

Did you notice any difference in shifting after you changed it? Read that it might get worse.

A ZF Transmission is a ZF Transmission, it does not matter whose chassis they bolt it into.

No, that is the plastic pan. The did have listed the metal kit at some point, I would give them a call or contact.. Here's the part numbers.

Courtesy, thectsc
ZF part # 1068 103 820 is a metal pan with a removable filter. Heavy use 4x4 guys ( think Aussies in Land Rovers in the Outback) like this for very frequent fluid changes since you change the fluid & filter with the pan staying put for another cycle.
Below notes are from Klaus @ California Transmission ( CTSC ) & I would think rule it out for all but race cars. They also stock the OEM plastic pan w integrated filter & sell a kit w fluid.
Metal Pan info:

As you probably know, kit includes:
-oil pan
-oil pan gasket
-oil pan screws
-filter
Keep in mind that you are losing app. 1 liter on your transmission fluid
capacity. (More frequent fluid changes required)
The fluid level has to be checked with the overflow plug in the pan, not the
trans housing anymore.
If the filler plug in the housing is used to adjust fluid level, the trans
is overfilled by app. 1 liter and will overheat-fail.

Questions?
If you are interested, let me know. Also, special orders are not returnable.
Best Regards
Klaus

Courtesy me
Metal pan kit number is 1068-103-820
extra pan gasket #1068-303-017
extra filter #0501-213-359
