Default Best deep cycle battery

I am looking to upgrade my battery in my 2007 lr3. We do a ton of camping and LR events so we use a lot of power while the vehicle is off. I am looking for I guess deep cycle marine battery options and prices. Thank you.

Default install a second battery

For starting the engine of the 3 you want a "shallow cycle" battery such as the Interstate MTP-H8 CaCa, (or similar), starting battery that is probably already in there.

For operation of the other items when the engine is not running, yes, a deep cycle battery is what you want.

The 3 already has a location for a second battery and the install is relatively easy. Traxide of Australia, D3, makes a number of kits specific to the left hand drive LR3 as well as RH and LH drive D3's. With the kit installed, you can then pretty much install any battery that will fit and at least your 3 will still start in the morning regardless of what transpired last evening.

The link below is to a number of files I have in my second battery install album regarding the install and selection of battery. Of possible particular interest is the Caterpillar file regarding battery sizes and shapes.

Thanks, that helped out a ton... What type and brand of battery did you use for the secondary?

Default Deka 640RMF group 40R shallow cycle CaCa wet

I used a Euro style made in USA Deka brand starting, (cranking), battery. My desire was to have additional engine starting capacity in cold weather. I am not really the outdoors type - the 3 is for staying on the road to get to the lodge rather than going off road to the campsite.

For aesthetic purposes, I also wanted to use the Land Rover OEM battery tie down setup so that pretty much requires the recessed posts of a Euro style battery which the Group 40R is.

The Deka is the same style of construction as the Interstate, CaCa and what is called Wet as in you can remove the valve caps and add water, and I could not obtain a Group 40R Interstate at the time.

In Australia, it seems that most of the guys go for the Yellow Top version of an Optima spiral for deep cycle use. For vehicle starting however the Optima Red Top is suggested but I do not think Optima makes a Group 49 size, (Euro H8.) or in my case, not a 40R for certain. In the States, I think DieHard sells or did sell a clone of the Optima Red Top.

For the current DieHard battery, the link below is to their version of the Interstate AGM's.

This is the Deka battery website. Good background material is on the site.
