roverguy7, thanks for the pictures. They're nice and clear and a good reference for people.

The throttle plate is purely from the service, there was no physical cleaning at all. LR does not specify, but Jaguar(who makes the engine) advises against physically cleaning the TB, as you can remove a coating. If you look closely, you can see where the Carbon had somewhat changed the surface of the blade, both in the before and after shot.

Can anyone give me the part number for the capacitor? I talked to the parts counter at my local rover dealership and they have never heard of it...said the 2006 LR3 doesn't have one.

For that matter, can you include the PCV part number too? I don't trust that this parts person is giving me the correct price for the correct part. Does $46 sound right?

Dave,

I have a 2005 LR3 HSE w/67,000 miles. The dealer just replaced the MAF and about 6 months ago they replaced 5 ignition coil packs and diode as well as spark plugs. Should I have the fuel injection service you describe?

Also - should I have the 3 remaining coil packs replaced? It seemed add that they only did 5.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Gordon

An injection service is good, the cleaner things are, the better everything will work. Ideally you want to change the plugs after doing an injection service, as it is a very aggressive chemical, and can damage the plating on the plugs.

Why did you have 5 coils replaced?? They really do not fail that often, and when they do, it's at random, not several at once.

I've seen dealers (not just land rover) recommend replacing all of the coils. Probably just a cya. I will note that some of the rover parts places sell lr3 coils in packs of 8.

I've got some coils in order for mine, should be here Monday. I notice some have been replaced before. I think the previous tech failed to fix the problem because the lr3 manual gives incorrect cylinder numbering. I found a jaguar document online and it helped a bunch in figuring out what rover had labelled wrong.

Vehicle went into reduced power mode - I had to crawl to dealer. They replaced one coil pack.

A couple months later another failed so I asked them to replace all as I was worried that I would be in a remote location when the next one failed. They only replaced 4 more as they were out of stock. Would you replace the other three?

I really appreciate the advice!

Gordon
