Default Black Smoke

Hey all,

I've got a 2008 LR3 V8 with 143,000 miles. I've recently replaced the PCV Valve, plugs, air filter, and did an injector cleaning. My fiance has been driving my car due to the snow/ice in the Seattle and called me today after heading up one of the many hills in the area mentioning that she just smoked a few people out after accelerating at the stop light at the top. The vehicle has been running great, but this has continued to happen intermittently since I replaced the items mentioned at the beginning. I've been reading about a possible split in the intercooler hose, but don't think this applies to the V8's. Could it be a bad EGR Valve?

Many thanks,
Matt

Matt the LR3 doesn't have an intercooler. Black smoke is more commonly over fueling. Does it happen more commonly when your heavy on the throttle?

I didn't think it did, but just wanted to be sure, haha! It only happens if we are at a stop and go to accelerate, also, sometimes upon startup. This time today the vehicle only had a half tank of gas.

Could this be a bad EGR Valve due to the black smoke and much lower MPG's than I've previously had?

Sounds more like a over fueling issues and that it is running really rich

Thanks ArmyRover! Do you think cutting back at the pump will allow the fuel mixture to sort itself out so it doesn’t run so rich?

If you empty the tank completely it won’t make any more black smoke...
