They make something like this for Subaru I think. My only hesitation would be if that oil is factored into the design and needed. More likely it was factored in to gunk it up.

Yep, I run one on my TT to keep intake tract clean (different vendor, same idea). Mishimoto does make some good stuff, I have an aluminum radiator from them that really keeps the car cool especially with a FMIC stacked in front of the rad.

The only reason I can see not to filter further is to keep your local LR service department well funded while they replace expensive sensors when a $4 can of carb cleaner will do

I actually have less concern over the throttle body being carbon fouled as I do the MAF sensor. Once I get something sorted I will share with the community.

Replaced cabin air filter (much needed) and brake light switch this AM and got just about everything I need to replace transfer case and diff fluids.

Finally got titled and tagged in PA, will go for inspection this weekend. Replaced the brake light switch and replaced the front differential breather cap today and ordered a suction gun to do the diff and transfer case fluids before the trip next month.

Also, got a used (brand new) hitch off the classifieds, so just about ready for road trip next month!

Default Fluids replaced

Changed out the diff and transfer case fluids today. The front diff looked like it had never been touched (fluid was mud colored and had very little). The transfer case and the rear diff looked more like caramel colored and had about the proper amount of fluid. Ready for road trip next weekend to OBX!

Comparing old and new

Mud colored would be rust, after your trip change it again, try and flush a little more moisture out of it. Chances are the rust is already well underway on both. Drive it and hope for the best. If you don't have problems, keep changing it every 30k. Transfer Case 60k Tranny 60-70k.

Nice pictures..

Isn't it mostly clear to start with? Maybe some color like a Crisco color?

Where and when are you headed to OBX? I'm headed down to Cape Lookout to camp and drive on the beach June 25-28.

Yep, I suspected as much as I was able to wipe off a little of the residue through the drain plug and while the metal under that looked good, I can only imagine what it looks like if I were to open everything up. I am going to follow your lead and swap the fluids again when I get home and see how things look.

All the new fluid was clear (as you can see in the comparison pic), but the old (I expect original) was a different story. The transfer case and rear diff were much cleaner than the front.. but once everything mixed together the rust color won

Opposite end.. we are staying up north in Carova on the 4X4 beach. Be safe down there... just heard about the shark attacks today a bit south of there!

Ah, damnit. I was planning the beach trip to happen BEFORE Discovery Channel's Shark Week just so I wouldn't freak myself out. Now I have to deal with this?
