Default Broken Fan

So last night, I heard a funny noise while accelerating, It got worse, then the whole car began to wobble upon idle, I limped home and found that my upper fan shroud was shredded to pieces and my fan was broken and a small upper radiator hose had been torn off. First of all, what in the world might have caused this?
I can replace the fan myself no problem for under $400 and I probably need a new radiator, another $350. I can't seem to find a new fan shroud though.

Any thoughts? Anyone experience anything like this?
Any help and discussion on this would be very helpful.

You can pick up a fan shroud at a salvage yard, or through their network. You can also search for LR3 used parts..

I'd inspect the bottom front lower shrouds, either something made it's way in, or a blade let loose and tore everything up. The conditions you were operating in at the time may give you an idea, ie: high RPM, gravel, hit a wood chuck, etc.
