Default Calibration (adaption clearing) for Transmission after service?

Hi - Just wondering how many people have done this - using the GAP tool (or I suppose having a shop do it after service) to reset the calibration on the tranny so that it can relearn and shift properly? GAP says this is standard procedure after replacing this that and the other on the transmission. This is standard protocol, right?

It takes 30 seconds tops.

Under Service/Test, go to transmission then clear adaptation

It also states to only do it after service, repair or replace. I was wondering if after buying a used LR3 could it be done to learn how i drive without issue? Just wondering if anyone has done this without doing any service or repair/replace with no prob?

Dealer wisdom says that you should never do an adaptions reset after 100k miles.

theory is your computer has been learning how to shift with a trans that is worn, and resetting will cause issues.

i have done it, but after making the customer fully aware of the risks.

OK still no warm and fuzzy. So adding to that should I do the filter/fluid change seeing how that is a post requirement to reset the adaptions? I've always been told that if it has not been done before the tranny has so many miles its bad due to the wear of the internals also (I realize you hit on that in your last post). So is that also true?
Second note on the risk of resetting the adaptations, after you did the customers did it come back for further issues? I assume not since you did not state it but, assumptions and all...

I NEVER reset adaptions after a service. The one that I reset the adaptions on had 190K and it never came back. He had a vibration at gear shift from 5th.

I suggest you do a service but do not reset adaptions. If old dirty fluid is the only thing holding your trans together, better to force the issue then be stranded out somewhere.

Alrighty then, sounds like a solid NO go on the reset!
The transmission shifts fine, just have the California NO roll or whiplash issue but no codes with my GAP tool. Just wanting some clarity from you more landie savie folks.
So thanks abran!
I will do the transmission filter/fluid as soon as possible.

I reset mine, Abran -

Had the transmission serviced at 200k (kms, not miles) because I also noticed that there was a lag 2-3 and first would hesitate then go in a jerk-forward motion (whiplash inducing).

I have the ECU flash for the transmission too since it wasn't up to date.

It’s not a guarantee of a bad outcome, but it’s a possibility.

scoutrover13- check to see if you have the latest software. LR put out a “fix” for the ca stop. If not up to date, you might consider installing the update which will automatically reset adaptions.

Drive like you are 90 yrs old after while it learns. Also let it downshift as much as possible without braking.

good luck.
