Default Cheap snorkel install

I purchased a snorkel kit on eBay for 127 bucks shipped. Thought I’d include some observations...
It came quickly and very well packaged.
There was a mix up on the bolts, one of the m6 studs should have been the smaller size. Included hardware was all stainless. Ended up buying a bolt with the correct thread for $0.75. Seller was responsive and would have sent me the correct hardware.
The band clamp for the top part was painted black and might scratch off easily.
Plastic was very thick and looked good.

No instructions in the box!

Drilling holes in the fender was straight forward and the template was very close. Use a slightly larger bit to allow movement.
Drill the holes in the A Pillar before mounting the snorkel. The steel in the A pillar is very hard. Get a couple of bits and use oil. Be careful as the bit might break when it starts to go through. I only ended up with two of the three rivets. I would tighten the top first and then the nuts inside the fender. Felt very secure. I coated the edges and holes with silicone caulking to prevent water intrusion. Open the hood to remove the trim, you will need to dremel about 3/16 of an inch of material from the windshield trim to clear the bracket. I marked the trim where the edges of the bracket were located. If you cut at an angle, you can get the trim to meet the bracket and have minimal gap. Didn’t care for the shiny bolts that attach he snorkel to the bracket, black plastic caps would be a nice touch.

Removing the vent and rubber inner part was very easy. Inner fender well took a while to remove. Jacked up the truck and removed the wheel. Lots of plastic push rivets and some screws. Two come up from the bottom. I had a tire pressure sensor inside the wheelwell liner that needs to be disconnected.

I added locktite on all of the studs. Get all of the nuts on before tightening. One is particularly hard to get to. I put an extra rivet in where the top slides on. I wasn’t too comfortable with just the band clamp, although it slides on about two inches.

I will do the air box side another day.

Probably an hour and a half to two hours so far. Needed to run out for drill bits and a pop rivet tool. Harbor freight $10.

Reinstallation is just the reverse. Door and hood clear it easily.

Happy with the look...haven’t been to freeway speeds yet, so I’m not sure if it makes any noise. Probably not more than my roof rack!
