Ah hah! Ratchet ring spanner....that's a tool I don't have. I'll need that; any particular size?

So you are saying undo the bolts that hold the compressor to the bracket, move it to one side and get the top bolt, then take down the entire bracket with compressor?

Called to get a quote from a local shop just to have a data point. They said they won't install the Hitachi because the fault remains present; AMK only.

Are they off their rocker?

They may be confused. If you replace the compressor with a different version and don't change the setting using the Gap tool you will get a code. That is what they most likely think will happen.

Swivel socket and not a universal joint is the key.

The notch is a great idea also.

That's what I figured....they probably had customers come in with a Hitachi to replace a failing AMK.

Any advice on helpful tools? Procedures? Tricks? Much appreciated, in advance.

How’d it go? I just swapped mine yesterday and it wasn’t as bad as I remembered it from 6-7 years ago. Only casualty was the 4mm bolt at the middle of the sound deadening clamshell. Otherwise, now the bracket is notched and no faults (yet). Pretty quick - maybe 4 hours with a lot of beer and casual breaks. $350 Amazon Hitachi … cautiously optimistic!

I'll be doing this job on Wednesday afternoon! I enlisted the help of a friend that has done this several times, so I should be getting some good tutelage. I'm bringing the pizza and beer, he is providing insight and emotional support.

Well if they did it several times, it should take half a beer to get it out and another half to get it in. That is how I am with fuel tank removal now. Silly how long the first time it took me, now I can drop one in just a few minutes.

I'm still happy to put in many beers and hang out with my homie for a few hours while I learn the ropes.

I was probably 3-4 on the way out…several in between…and 1-2 back in. I prefer my methods to yours
