Okay....done; piece of cake, really. That one top bolt is a pain in the neck, but other than that pretty easy to do. We completed the job in 2 hours, including slotting the bracket and having to drill through a broken mounting bolt (compressor to bracket) that sheared in the removal process. Thanks all for the tips....

...next question: if I wanted to rebuild or otherwise restore this old compressor, what would I be looking to do? The air dryer is fairly new (maybe a year or 2 old).

If it's not too far gone, there are rebuild kits available. But I don't have a rec for which company's kit to use as I haven't done it myself. I do have a couple old ones sitting around I'd like to rebuild myself if you guys have recommendations to share.
I know cheap kits are all over ebay and amazon, but who knows about their quality - not me at least.... In some searching I've come across 4x4airseals.com which looks like a reputable site with everything one could possibly need, but shipping would be from the UK.

2 suppliers that i would recommend for rebuild kits are 4x4airseals and X8R , both available from ebay. Even some of the Amazon kits are ok.

Cool....ordered the X8R kit; hopefully I don't break things while I "rebuild" the compressor. It would be good to have a backup. If I had to go from AMK back to Hitachi (on my '05) I assume there is an analogous software update that I can do with the GAP....is that correct?

Only hard part is removing the top ring of the compressor to fit the new seal, yes a software change is required when swapping from one compressor type to the other.

Thanks, I knew that a software update was needed; my question was specifically if it can be done both "directions." (i.e. Hitachi to AMK; AMK to Hitachi)

Yes houm, you can set it to either one with the GAP tool.
