Default Coolant Crossover Pipe....

.....the LR4 has an issue with this; the crossover pipe is plastic and it breaks, sometimes catastrophically.

Anyone know what material the LR3 uses? I think it's a pipe that connects to the water pump.

Well, based upon prices, it seems to be made from sloughed off Unicorn skin cells that are then moistened with Narwhal saliva and hard packed with fairy dust.

.Based on repair frequency.... maybe the answer is a grade of plastic that is one grade of quality less than what it needs to be.

I dont think $120 for a new OEM genuine t-stat housing is expensive. I mean it's the entire crossover tube, t-state and sensors. Aftermarket ones can be had for cheap but they are known to fail at a much greater rate. Always goes OEM on this part.

Dakota Traveler,

The price is consistent with other brands. Just having a little fun.

There are few times that aftermarket, or even OEM is a bad idea, and only LR genuine labeled parts will work, and this is one of those parts.

Mine started leaking at the bottom when it mounts to block at about 116 000 miles.Replaced with Genuine back then as with every crucial parts on LR3, I don't screw around. Now at 250 000 it will be replaced again, this time proactively as I am going on the trip out West and don't want any surprises specially when I will be sort of one handed after surgery.I may replace water pump as well, but don't feel like it as it does not make noises or leaks at the moment. Also have a Genuine part at hand for that particular item.
