I saw another thread about this and saw Tom was interested so I thought I could share a little.

I am assuming that the main goal is to remove the dash cap, the one that is always cracked. The first 2 photos show the standard torx screw/pin fastening points you will find all along the lower edge. The 2 photos after that show that there is a square hole that a piece of the dash fits into horizontally. So you will have to pull those sections on the edges towards you to release the dash. The last photos show the trickiest part which is a single torx that is holding the soft dash section behind the instrument cluster, so you have to remove the cluster first to get to it.

Just out of curiosity, how intensive was this? How many hours did it take you? Also, are you doing it to replace your dash, and if so, how are you handling your VIN replacement?

 

It took me 3 hours to strip it all the down, sub chassis and heater core.

If I was trying to be gentle and documenting all hardware I would give myself a day.

The car is being parted out, so not worried about replacement or the VIN. I did check and the VIN is a sticker and it just chips when you try to peel it off. So, I would guess you would need to dremel that section off and glue over the new dash.

I didn't mention, but its pretty straight forward, you need to detach the airbag form the cast dash subframe.

ok I am trying to pull the upper dash and you lost me, does all that black plastic come out with the padding?




I un did the 2 bolts on the cluster, how does it come out? this seems waaay more complicated then it needs to be


i want the dash top off to see if i can split off the heated seat wiring that plugs intro the back of the hvac controls


if you have the controls facing you upper left on back is that plug, my hse has it the se does not and i know its to power the seats

 

Yes, Black plastic comes with it. The tricky part is pulling the dash towards you at the ends, where I showed that square hole in the metal chasis. The plastic inserts did not want to come out.

Cluster should just pull forward and up to clear the tabs you unscrewed with a little pry upwards on the dash top.

Fourth photo is the tab that insert at each end that you need to pull towards you.

 

holy crap, ok in order to save me a ton of work that may yield me nothing i will post a pic of the wiring i am looking for if you could trace it for me see where it goes? assuming this rover had heated front seats

 

No heated seats! Also, I pulled the harness already...
