Dead Radio Troubleshooting
Big rain storm, front passenger side sunroof drain was broken off at the grommet/elbow inside the vehicle. Floor was soaked as well as sill channel with all the wiring to back of vehicle. The drain/elbow fix was relatively easy with a $14 part and a little patience getting the central junction fuse box in and out for access to the through hole to the wheel well. Then, next morning battery was dead. Smelled electrical burning and traced parasitic draw to the radio fuse/circuit, F53 (15A). Fuse was in good shape; but, the second I pulled it out the electrical drain stopped and it's been fine since; but, I'm now without a radio.
Just before removal of the fuse, the radio was not working and the display was jumbled until ultimately going blank. Again, was smell distinct burning smell until pulling F53. Starting the troubleshooting process now and wondering if anybody here has any pointers? I did pull the passenger side sill cover (pain the a$$ without removing the seat trim) to inspect splices in the sill and didn't see any that looked obviously bad or burnt. Next was going to pull the radio head unit and inspect connecters and try some power readings; but, given the parasitic draw on that circuit, the burning smell, and the flooded floor; I really thought the problem would be somewhere lower where the water had come in and settled.
Any ideas?

I did not. Ultimately guessed I'd need a new head unit and since it's an extra vehicle have just lived with the fuse removed and no radio..
Yeah... your guess is right that its likely a dead heat unit. My buddy bought an LR3 with a dead radio and it was clear that water from above was the issue. A swap with a used one and all was well. They are not encoded, so any used one of the correct model will work with just a swap.
