Don't all HIDs (adaptive or not) do a self-leveling calibration/dance upon start up? If you want to see if you have the adaptive ones, just go real slow at night and turn the wheel sharply. You will be able to see the inner headlight beam swivel more to the inside of the corner. It's not subtle at really low speeds and sharp turns.

Fire it up at night in spot where you can see the beam pattern in front of you and see if the headlights "dance" upon start up. Or stand in front of it and look at the headlights while your bro fires it up. The adaptive headlamps do a calibration, which you should be well aware of with your fully-loaded HSE.
Deflection amount is inverse of vehicle speed and I believe it disables above 40mph (and below 5mph) or something like that - but regardless it definitely deflects the most just above the low speed cut-off. I also agree - I'm 99% sure it was only added to HSE's.

The items you mentioned being incorrect were noted as "I'm not sure" or the like. I kinda knew rear AC wasn't automatically included, but it was worth mentioning the option as I really like it (my dog LOVES IT!!! )

A couple bizarre things that I THOUGHT I was sure of though - the center console cooler, and the front PDC. There isn't much info on front PDC and I'm sure most don't care, but I swore there was plenty of OE literature talking up the cool HSE console cooler.

I forgot about the HSE LUX package, which was better known in the 09's but after the face lift LR did to LR4 and RRS (with HSE Luxury badge this time) BUT this package was available in 06 as well. I believe this is where some exclusive options come in. I saw some mention of the center console cooler later on (tech package or something weird like that) but that might have been an error. The HSE lux option does pretty much everything and the center console cooler, one piece of LR literature made the cooler sound exclusive to this choice which may be why people confuse it as an HSE only option since lux was only available on those.

I know my 06 RRS was an HSE Lux because the seats were different and not perforated leather (had the same front PDC, center console cooler, etc) but I think all "Luxury" optioned LR3s had the same regular perforated leather seats, it was just a term they added to describe some additional options.

I also saw a "lighting package" which includes front PDC, bi-xenons, rain-sensing wipers (I forgot about those, but every LR I've seen 05+ had them) and front / rear fog lights. Also says footwell and puddle lights, auto dimming rear mirror, and homelink are included. I think many of these are only excluded if you get a V6. This may be how some SE's got front PDC but after looking at LR3's for sale over many many years, that was VERY rare.

One thing that always blew my mind was how my 06 LR3 with every option in the book didn't have lumbar support. My friends freaking mid 00's Toyota has that!!!

CMB6s - I'm pretty sure the bezel around the ellipsoid lens is larger and has indents on the adaptive headlights; likewise I'm also pretty sure the regular bi-xenons don't have a horizontal pan axis servo motor and do their self-calibrate procedure vertically only.

Another weird note is that some tech manuals seem to describe the system as correcting vertically depending on inclines, acceleration (ie squat) etc - however I have NEVER seen the lights on my RRS or LR3 ever correct themselves or even move vertically other than at startup.

Aaaalso, I didn't notice till a year or so after I got the RRS, but the headlights self-calibrate upon vehicle startup regardless of your headlights being on, it's just obviously more difficult to notice. I also had one get stuck outward (turned headlights on and it was WAY off to the side) and restarting the it (new self-calibrate) actually fixed the problem.

That drives me crazy too. However, after coming from a 2003 Audi A4, the LR3 seats were about the most comfortable thing in the world to me... until we got my wife's L322. Now, I absolutely hate driving the Audi for any period of time because the seats feel like wooden boards.

Makes sense to me, but they should still do a vertical calibration upon startup.

They definitely do correct vertically. The best way to see it is to park about 15' away from your garage door at night then let off the brake so you're going real slow, then slam the brake on. When the nose dips, you'll see the line of the headlights briefly go down, then jump up in little increments. You could also probably see if it you jacked the rear of the car up/down with the IID tool. The leveling is done based on the readings from the height sensors at each wheel. When the car detects the nose dipping, it will raise the lights and vice versa.

Well, I picked up the 2006 HSE yesterday!

It is Buckingham blue and has all the bells and whistles except the flip down screen in the rear seats. It came from an individual who worked at the dealership, and has been dealership serviced all of its life! Just as I picked it up the vehicle was quickly put in to the LR tech bay to have an issue fixed with the rear AC.

Some Specs:

- Buckingham Blue colour
- Alpaca Tan interior
- HD Package
- 19" rims
- Bi Xenon adaptive headlights
- Centre console fridge / cooler
- Nav system
- Homelink system
- Bluetooth
- Heated seats + 8 way adjustable (driver)
- Rear AC
- and more

I must say, it handled like a dream driving it home!
