Default Dimming the Nav System

I've searched the manual and played around with the menus on the Nav system in my 2005 LR3, but can't find a way to either manually dim the Nav screen at night or set it to dim itself. I'm starting to think that it can't be done, which I would find pretty irritating and surprising. If it can't be done, it would be the first time I have seen a Nav system that doesn't dim at night.

Can anyone who knows the LR3 a little better tell me if it can be done and if so, how?

I'm still still researching, but I know that you can use the dashboard dimming switch. When you dim the dash lights, the nav screen also dims. You can also work with the contrast setting, which will do much of the same thing in the system settings of the nav system.

The nav dims when the headlights are turned on. It doesn't dim all that much so maybe you just don't notice it?

This should work...have you tried it?

Yeah, I've played around with the settings and gotten it down somewhat, without making the contrast so I can't see it during the day. What I was hoping for is a setting that changes the colors for a better night view, but it doesn't appear that such a thing exists on this nav system. Every other nav system I have seen either switches to a night mode automatically or has a manual setting you can use at night.

I absolutely love my LR3, but if I had to pick a feature that I'm most disappointed with, it would be the lack of a night mode for the nav system.

My GX 470 actually changed colors at night during night mode and allowed you to choose how much extra diming you wanted at night so I understand totally. However, my 06 LR3dims auto at night and I would have to say I'm currently happy with the level of extra dimming. Doesn't bother my eyes at all at night, even if a different color scheme sure would be nice!!
