Default Disco3 suspension fuse burning.

Greetings from eastern Europe!

Recelntly i bought disco3, which was previously used in Germany. After a month my air suspension stopped working and the suspension fault icon went off. I took a look into the fuse box and noticed that the 60 amp fuse had burnt. I replaced it with a new one, and suspension worked as it used to, but after 3 minutes or so the fuse burned out again. I tried replacing it several times, but it keeps burning out. Before buying a new compressor (700eur), i wanted to make sure if it really is the problem. Could there be any other solutions? Because the compressor itself works perfectly till the fuse burns out.

2005; Discovery 3; 2,7D

Thank you, cheers!

Sounds like the compressor or a short somewhere. When the compressor does run, does it seem normal in sound and run time?

Compressors seems to work perfectly - sounds the same and the run time is +/- the same. Couldn't it be the finger valves or something?

I have no idea what the normal current draw is for the compressor, but 60A seems like an awful lot. You basically have two reasons that I can think of that might cause the fuse to blow. The first is a short like unseenone mentioned. In my experience though, shorts typically manifest themselves immediately. In other words, the fuse would blow again as soon as the compressor was energized.

The other option is that perhaps the compressor really is pulling that many amps in order to operate. Obviously, it shouldn't be pulling this many normally, but if the filters in the dyer assembly are completely clogged or the desiccant is solidified to the point where air cannot pass though, then perhaps it's trying too hard, pulling too many amps and blowing the fuse. I suppose you could test this by removing the compressor and checking the dryer assembly first.

I removed the compressor today. Changed the desiccant, and changed the valve. But now i am starting to wonder, if the fuse is really blowing out because of the compressor. Cause the compressor itself works like magic in all regimes. But today the fuse was blown out, and the fault icon went off when the compressor wasn't even working. I switched the controller to the ice regime, the compressor did it's job, raised the car to its normal height in ice mode and switched off. After a minute or so, the car engine changed its sound a tiny bit and beeamm - the fault icon showed up on a screen, and the fuse was blown out. So i start to wonder - what else is fuse FL10 responsible for?

Ok, guys, i replaced the old fuse with a new one and disconnected the compressor, to see if the fault is somewhere else. Nah, the fuse didn't blow out, so the problem is in the compressor. I guess, ill have to buy a new one. Anyways, thank you for your advices! Cheers

Just out of curiosity, what sort of shape was the desiccant in? Did it still resemble granules or was it more compacted into fine "dust"?
