Default Drive Belt Replacement

Getting shop to replace the drive belts while they are doing the alternator but they can't seem to break the nut free. I seen the extended handled wrenches British Atlantic sells as compared to the shorter handled ones my shop has. Is there any trick or tip for breaking this fan clutch nut free? Is it a left hand thread or in any way different from other clutch fan nuts?

Thanx...

And an air hammer works wonders when you put it on the outside of the nut. In other words, if you're loosening it, put the air hammer on the top driver's side of the nut. Just be careful it doesn't slip off and damage something else like your radiator.

While you're at it you should have the replace the idler pulley if it hasn't been done yet. I think there was a TSB out for that. Plenty of info on the forum about that.

Thanx for the info guys... shop said the belts are in great shape so I won't bother for now. I was thinking an air chisel but for some reason, the techs here on the rusty east coast of Canada don't seem to utilize them.
I seen how useful the tool was in the BA video for getting the control arm bolts out.

Default Fan Clutch Holder tool; also Wrench, from Assenmacher

The two pdf's below are each a page from the Assenmacher catalogue that shows what is called the #8007 Fan Clutch Holder, aka the hoobie-doo, and also #8030, the Fan Clutch Shaft Wrench. That is the one required to unscrew the 36mm hex shaft, (reverse thread), the fan is attached too.

These are Made in USA tools. I see that the #8030 Wrench is on eBay; the #8007 Holder, apparently not so, but can be obtained directly from Assenmacher via their web site, or ordered from a number of professional auto tool suppliers. The prices vary but seem to be in the range of from 30 to 40 dollars each.

Re the link below, in the search box, just type in the model number, 8007 or 8030 and the part will appear.

Default count the belt and pulley grooves

When you receive your belts, count the number of grooves in both belts and also the number of grooves on your pulleys.

Sometimes they vary, and that is not good.

In otherwords, just because you have the correct part numbers, do not assume that is what you receive.

I think generally our engines have six groove pulleys and belts, but count to be certain you have all the same - for some reason, there can be variations.

This is a good belt change link.

How To: Change your engine belts
