Cruising in nowhere South Dakota and my driveshaft heat shield fell off while getting gas.
Currently held on by one bolt, but the others have rusted through apparently.
It is currently rigged up with a hanger holding up the far end but to say it's my finest work or that I think it'll last would be a damn lie.
I have 11hrs on the highway to get home - if the hanger job fails, can I just pull the thing off and keep driving for now?
PS - I did ask this last night and was told basically to push ahead, but it was buried in a thread on a different topic which happened to show the undecarriage, so figured I'd make normal post here for eyeballs and any additional tribal wisdom.
UPDATE:
Used a metal hanger to rig up the dropped end and then finished the rest of the 900 mile drive without issue! Thanks for all the encouragement! Exhausted in the rain on the side the highway in South Dakota I was worried it might be something idiotic to pull if needed - glad to know I would've been fine/was overthinking it probably lol.
I had a hard time finding the part/a place to order online but it seems like I was searching for "driveshaft heat shield" when I needed to be looking for "gas tank heat shield rear" so at least I'm seeing some options now.
All are for the LR4 (L319) but since the LR3 is also the L319, and the part looks correct, I'm assuming that'll do.
Copy that DakotaTravler. That was actually going to be my weekend fix, getting/fabricating a larger washer to get that fixed up since it didn't seem like a quick turnaround for that part from what I could gather from making a few calls but, double that since it's likely not even the right part.
