I have a 2006 LR3 se. It has 64,000 miles and the engine light came on. The codes that came up were “P0174 BANK 2 SYSTEM TOO LEAN. I have been reading on forums and believed it is the MAF. can anyone help

 

no its not the maf. you have an air leak or the fuel injectors are clogged.

install new upper and lower intake gaskets and do a bg injector service to make sure the injectors aren't clogged.

 

8 months ago I cleaned my fuel injection throttle body and last service 3 months ago they put 44 cleaner in my gas tank. So I assume fuel and air should be okay. Yesterday I made a trip around 200 miles on my way home, I stopped for 20 minutes. After I start car again, the lights came on. I don't see any difference when accelerating or driving. Everything seems to be normal. I start the car this morning and everything seems to be okay except the light is still on. Thanks.

 

Yes I had the same issue, mine would actually stall too. Switched out the MAF and now it runs great. 110k miles currently.

 

Take an old oil filter or cylinder that fits the air hose and take off the hose off of the airbox and tighten down the clamp till its tight over cylinder. Then start it up and if there is an air leak you will hear the noise as a strong squeal. the vehicle will stall as the air leak is discovered. Then you can pinpoint the cause of the air leak.

 

recheck your throttle plate, if it has an air leak a good scanner will tell you if its actually a vacuum leak , but if its a vacuum leak it will give you both banks lean ans since its just one start looking at blown exhaust gaskets or possible injectors on that bank

 

The injectors are cleaned with the flush. Works like a charm. Used it quite a bit to fix those issues.

Although, SoCal have you ever used the oil filter trick to find an air leak? Seriously its the best trick to find a leak. The guys in LR engineering came up with the trick and taught us how to do it. Guaranteed to find a leak at any temperature of the engine.

 

rovin no havent really tried that i normally use a regular glove and slip it over the intake tube right before the maf sensor and introduce smoke into the dipstick to check for idle vacuum leaks. and weve had to run that cleaner couple times to clean out pretty clogged injectors, sometimes even replacing them thats how bad it was. at least with these new 5.0 liters you can actually take a brush to them and clean the carbon off. but yet again injectors would only show lean conditions of idle and under load

 

if it is a 4.4 take an old oil filter and wrap it in tape till it fits and then start her up and listen for the noise. if its the SC then use a larger oil filter like one off of a D2.

Trust me it will find the simpliest of leaks in the hardest places when its hot or cold.

No need for a smoke machine.
