ENGINE REDUCE PERFORMANCE ON MY LR3
Hi friend, i bougth an lr3 like 15 days ago, and since two days ago, the car while i was driving suddenly turn off, i remove the key and turn it on againg and it all keep working fine, i tougth it was just a simple protection thing (couse i was speeding and stop to fast), well the big deal is that today , the message table said ENGINE PERFORMANCE REDUCE, and like a minute later the car i stop it and it turn off. I took the keys out , and turn it on againg and everything allrgith, no info, no erros, everything allrigth. When i came home, i read the the manual handbook, and on the message info, for the message ENGINE PERFORMANCE REDUCE, the is no info avaible, and it says NO ACTION REQUIERED.
PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME ON WHATS GOING ON?? AND WHAT SHOULD I DO? i have no warranty. Thanks

guarentee the diode on the coil pack is failing , sometimes intermittant sometimes totally. Its beneath the top cover in the engine bay and it looks like a thumb drive for computers. its 18 bucks if you go to a ford dealer and show them it. just tell them your a redneck with a 2004 f-150 scott
Well first of all if the diode is intermittent it will burn the cats, second I don't want to be on the highway when it dumps. I checked with my parts department the price has come down significantly (rover original) its $28 dollars, before they were like 89 dollars and never available, so one of my techs walked next door to the ford dealer becuase it had a FOMOCO stamp on it, and so for a few months Rosenthal was buying them from tysons ford and reselling them to customers and warranty at rover rates, til they became avalable from rover. Sort of like the headlight igniters from BMW when the 03 Range Rover headlamp assemblies where going out and not avalable (lamp assembly $625, igniter from BMW $27, do the math) This is a global parts market, many parts are off the shelf regardless of mark. scott
Rinmud, I must sayI was a bit sceptical with your diagnosis asI too have been dealing with the same symptoms as carlitonsky (Frequent stalling at low speed/stop signs with subsequent check engine light, reduced engine performance message, poor idle, and overall terrible engine performance almost like it was running on7 cylinders. This was an intermittent gripe however seemed to be getting worse. I took it in to the dealer and they said it was the mass airflow sensor (MAF) and a bad thermostat. I changed both myself and it seemed as if that fixed it for about a week then the symptoms came back. I then took it to a "cheep" authorized Land Rover mechanic while it still had the check engine light on. The codes he read pointed to the MAF sensor again andI told himI had just changed it. So he said maybe a leak in one of the vacuum hoses which would cost $140.00 to troubleshoot plus the cost of the bad part. I told him no thanks and performed my own inspection on the vacuum hoses. Everything was in good condition. A few days agoI ran across this post and figuredI would look into the diode. I removed the engine cover and located the diode, then turned on the engine and gave the diode a squeeze. Sure enough the engine started spazzing out just like it would at stop signs. This also cased the diode to finally keel over and die as my truck was no longer drivable. I calledmy L/R dealer and ordered the part which wasn't in stock ($18.00) and should have it here byTuesday.I am 100% positive this will end my head scratching on this issue and would like to thank rinmud for saving me the grief ofwasting tons of money on shotgun troubleshooting. Now I candrive myRover without embarrassment and withthis new found confidenceI may even take her off road.....
Oh, buy the way I checked with the Ford dealer for the samediode and they quoted $7.50 but they too were out of stock.

My problem is a little bit worse, as i dont know any mechanic, and in the country that i am , things are more expensive.. GUYS, if i take it to the land rover dealer , when they connect the diagnostic tool, WILL IT SAY IS THE DIODE? let me know to see what to expect when i take the car.. so they dont reap me..thanks
