Engine Thermostat
Does anyone know where the enging thermostat is located? I recieved a check engine light a few days ago and took it to the dealer. They downloaded two faults, one with the MAF sensor and the other with the thermostat. I figured both were easy enough fixes soI ordered the parts and drove the truck home. The MAF sensor was a piece of cake however i cant even locate the thermostat to start my next job. Any assistanc with this is appreciated.
Never mind, found it! Located next to where the intake enters the top front of the engine. It's in a plastic housingthat looks like an octopus with3 different sized coolant hoses coming out of it. It was simpleto replaceand saved me $500.00 in labor at the dealership for a $35.00 part.
Wow, $500.00 in labor is a bit steep. It pays about one hour to install and our labor rate is 110 per hour. It sounds like your dealership is ripping people off left and right based on your account. Glad to hear you were able to take care of it yourself though.
When I got back from this years LRNR I had the same issue with my thermostat. It was replaced free under warranty. Mine is a 2005 that I tookpossession of in Feb and my warranty still covers just about anything. Why did the dealer not cover the work?
My warranty is long gone. I'm at 67,000 miles. The dealer was also going to charge $50.00 to "reset" the check engine light which is nothing more than disconnecting the battery. I realize it is a business butI'm thankfulI'm mechanically inclined enough to fix this stuff myself.
