Ok. Hour in to try to get this fan out. Just to triple check. To loosen the nut I am turning the wrench clockwise?

 

Correct. They can be really stuck and having the proper tools helps a lot.

 

I have the wrench and pully holder. I tried every trick I know to get that thing loose and it didn’t budge at all. I think I’m at the point of putting everything back together, driving to the local LR Indy shop and giving him my credit card and the box of parts.

 

Try extending the wrench with a pipe or such. If you can get a helping hand, even better.

 

Is the direction the same for a petrol engine??

 

This is the V8 petrol.

 

Good luck is all I can say!!! I used a chain on the water pump bolt to keep it from spinning, bent 2 36mm fan clutch tools, and finally had to resort to a sawzall!!!! Took me 3hr to remove, and of coarse I get a RRS unit vs the LR3 unit shipped to me, had fo space out the fan blade & install took maybe 5min!!

This job can SUCK!!!!

 

Depending on engine depends on the direction to undo the fan - in general it undoes in the direction of leading edge fan blade.
These are when standing in front of vehicle
engines:
4.0 V6 has rh undo - turn to left
4.4 V8 has lh undo - turn to right
2.7 v6 has lh undo - turn to right
