295/45r20s. No rubbing. Not even on tightest turns.

Thanks Doug. Now that it's jammed in there, i'm going to try deflating till I can get it out, and get a portable air compressor, which is probably a good idea to have anyway, and see how that works.

Would one leave the heat shield out, or just remove it while getting the tire back in, and then replace it?

My tires are E rated

Leave it out.
A 5-tire rotation should help even out any extra heat the spare may receive.

BTW - no body is doing "fattest" tires anymore, 'tall & skinny' is cool again ;-) 11.5" width seems like a good fit.
