We are averaging 18-20 in the city. Getting 22-26 on the highway. Its surprisingly efficient when you drive it right. If you change your driving habits the fuel economy really improves. Driving it "normal" we get the 15 avg. that most people report. I never see less than 18 on highway.

As far as difference in years, not much, but I know that most people will tell you that most of the issues were ironed out by the 2007 model. For sure avoid the V-6. 1 mpg is no reason to sacrifice the power and reliability of the V-8.

After owning it a year now, I can say that nothing feels like a Land Rover. Every car I have driven in since is a disappointment.

Is there something on this vehicle that would sound like a rod knock without it being a bad engine? Saw one 4 sale says it suddenly developed a knock

For cheap enough may be worth it but I do not want to buy an engine

It could be that the seller is describing the sound of a worn control arm bushing as a "knock" not meaning to imply engine-knocking.

I haven't heard much about engine knock with the LR3s, but the Disco IIs suffered from a few different ailments that resulted in engine knock. One of these problems that seems to be fairly common is the piston/cylinder sleeves sliding up and down in the cylinder walls and hitting the heads.

Didn't someone post a TSB about the vvt causing a knocking sound?

Variable valve timing.

The LR3 doesn't have an antique boat motor like the older discos
