I've removed this component but it looks pretty sealed and I can't see what is failing to keep it shut but if you push it in it always pops open. Anyone solved this? I'm happy to just buy another but can't find it online.

 

BP Utah has the genuine cup holders on their web site. They are hard to find but they are there - in with parts rather than the accessories section.

The link will only get you to the site - you have to look around then.

I gather you know below as to how to remove the cup holder.

The cup holder screws to the same padding as the round air vent above is attached to. To remove all, you firmly pull at the bottom of the padding and sort of rotate upwards.

A couple of those metal V clips finally let go and the air vent and cup holder assembly plus padding come off as one piece.

You may have to look for one or more of the V clips I might add - sometimes they go flying off.
