Front Runner tire carrier
All right, since this was suggested in another thread...
...here's my contribution, the Front Runner tire carrier. I think I posted this to the UK LR3 forum, but not here...
The good: Build quality seems quite solid. The lift support/strong arm makes it easy to open, even when the angle of the swing is upward. It can open when my camper is hitched up, thus allowing full access to the rear of the truck.
The bad: The lever to release the wheel is pretty small and tucked quite far underneath, it's sort of hard to reach esp. one handed. It allows adjustment on the distance between the wheel and the rack, however mine is maxed out (i.e. the wheel is the furthest away from the LR that it can be) to fit a 275/65-18 spare. Rear sensors go off. It cost a lot by the time I found a used wheel, tire, TPMS sensor. I have to use a hitch extension to fit my bike rack.
All in all, I'm pleased with it.
Here are some pics of the route to Skylight cave in central Oregon, with Mt Washington in the background.
