Default Fuel cap loose or missing

Hello. I have this message on my lr3 display. I tightened the cap and it didn’t help. After a few days I decided to buy a new cap. That didn’t seem to help. When I was putting fuel in today I realized that the little flap inside is stuck open. Just wanted to know if it is always stuck open or if it is supposed to close to help seal the tank. If someone could look at there’s any let me know if it’s the same or not that would be great. 😅

Default Thanks

Good to know. I just had the cel come on for a p0442 so I will probably try a smoke test and see if I can figure it out.

Screenshot from my Mitchel1 DIY subscription, $60 for 4 years:

P0442 by itself could be a number of things, but if it's not the fuel cap, it's likely the DMTL pump or purge valve. Here's a link to the DMTL which is attached to the charcoal canister. I have not replaced one so I'm not sure how difficult it is to access. Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Range Rover (roverparts.com)

Hey, how do you like the Mitchel1 for LR3/RRS? What is good with it, what is bad (if any)? What kind of diagrams does it have? I do like the “what might it most likely be” graphics but where do they source that data?

Mitchell 1 DIY has been good for me. I am currently subscribed to 12 different vehicles so I’m kind of deep in it.

They recently changed the DIY interface where they added much of the experience based repairs that I presume come from their professional platform used by many shops.

It has been good for hard-to-find torque specs, wiring diagrams, actual factory repair procedures and proper diagnostics. It is essentially a full copy of each vehicle specific factory service manual with additional search tools, wiring diagrams, and now the repair history data.

The new DIY interface is bad on a mobile phone, but works in a pinch. It does take some digging around to become proficient in getting what you need. Definitely worth the cost of a single vehicle subscription.
