Default Fuel Gauge Problem

2005 LR3 V8 SE
Approximately 80,000 miles

Yesterday, I was driving down the road and all of a sudden, my fuel gauge went from half a tank to completely empty. The low fuel light came on and the miles to empty went to zero. I checked underneath for a leak, but there was not one. I went and put another 6 gallons in it, but still nothing. There aren't any other problems with the instrument panel and everything else about the vehicle seems to be running fine. Has this happened to anyone else or can anyone give me some advice? I'm scheduled to take it to the dealer on Monday, but they said over the phone that they had not seen this before. I haven't checked the fuses yet, but would there be a dedicated fuse for just the fuel gauge and not for the entire instrument panel? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
